Meet Me! {teacher blogger linky}

Hi everyone! My name is Bethany McClure and I’d like to welcome you to my blog, Learning is a Journey! I started my blog a few years ago as a way for my students and parents to stay up-to-date on classroom happenings. Since then, I’ve expanded my blog to not only include topics pertaining to teaching and learning, but also topics that are important in other areas of my life such as my family, running, music, and Auburn to name a few! I would love for you to take a look around and follow my blog via one of the options listed on the sidebar!

Here is a little bit about my sweet family… I have been married to Scott for 4 years! We met at Auburn University. War Eagle! Scott was getting ready to graduate with his engineering degree and I was finishing up my 2nd year of teaching 1st grade at Cary Woods Elementary School. We started dating, although I had already made plans to move to Atlanta at the end of the school year. Fate intervened and Scott was offered a job in Atlanta. We were married in Piedmont Park on June 12, 2010 and are now the parents to the most precious baby girl – Sarah Elise.

I am currently taking a break from teaching but still consider myself a teacher at heart! I am staying home with Sarah and my job is to teach her something new everyday! We have fun each week at the library, music class, swinging, and taking walks with her stroller!

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS…
Scott & Sarah. My family. Being a SAHM. Polka Dot Parlor. Thirty-One. Grades K-1. National Board Certification. Twitter. Auburn. Kauai. Dispatch. Concerts. Coffee. Running. Dark chocolate. Burger Fi. Sophie Kinsella & all of the Shopaholic books. Days of Our Lives. All things Bachelor/Bachelorette. Suits. Covert Affairs. Reading. Candy Crush. Jewel Mania.

IF YOU WEREN’T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
If I weren’t a teacher, I would want to own my own boutique or work in some way with graphic design. I would want my web boutique, Polka Dot Parlor, to have a brick-and-mortar location.

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Organized I love organizing things and helping other people get organized too. My closet is color-coordinated. Being a Thirty-One consultant has gotten me even MORE organized, if that’s even possible!
Caring – One of my favorite things is helping others. I also love to give back, especially to one of my charities, Soles4Souls.
Motivated – Nothing motivates me more than setting goals for myself. One of my big teaching goals was to achieve National Board Certification. In 2012 I certified as an Early Childhood-Generalist. Now I am working towards a half-marathon and I would love to become a Thirty-One Director!

FINISH THE SENTENCE, “________, SAID NO TEACHER EVER!”
“I learned SO much in that staff meeting!… said no teacher ever!”

Q: IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE TO THE PARTY.  WHO ARE YOU INVITING?
Most definitely Chipper Jones.
Also, Alison Sweeney and Jonah Hill.

Q: IF SOMEONE WROTE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?
Tales of an Internet Shopper! I buy pretty much EVERYTHING online… When we go out of town my neighbors think I’m crazy because they intercept at least 3 or 4 packages each time. Once, the post man had to leave all of my packages in a USPS mail bin because there were so many delivered on the same day!

Q: YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?
I would want to snap my fingers and have Sour Jacks or Sour Punch Straws magically appear!

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?
Learning is a journey… not a race!

Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Wonderwall by Oasis.

Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?
Morning Person! When I could manage it, I always enjoyed getting to school early and could get so much accomplished in just a short amount of time. Now that I’m home with Sarah, my only chance to get anything done is to get up before she does… or work on things during nap time!

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE THAT YOU’VE CREATED IN YOUR TPT STORE?
One of my favorite resources in my TpT Store is my Classroom Library Book Labels and Round Stickers – Chevron. My classroom library is very extensive and I was struggling to keep all of my books organized. I wanted my first graders to have free access to our library so I had to come up with a very visual way to help my students select and put away their books. I came up with these labels that organize my books by theme and also created matching round stickers that help the students identify which bin the book goes in. Check out this resource in my TpT Store and add them to your wish list! I also have 2 FREE versions of these that include authors and other series. I would love for you to download them and leave feedback! FREE Volume 1 | FREE Volume 2

Q: SHARE SOMETHING WE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU!
Every two years or so I grow my hair out and donate it to Locks of Love! I always donate 10 inches or more. This is my third donation that I recently made in June 2014.

    Hey Bethany,
Sarah is super cute! I’m sure it’s a blast to hang out with her everyday! I discovered Burger Fi on a trip to Florida a few months ago – sooo good! I wish they’d open one around me.

    Enjoy the rest of summer!
