{NBPTS} My best tips for candidates!

Working on your National Boards? I have been getting a lot of emails lately, so I wanted to take a minute to write about some of my best tips and advice for getting started (or pushing forward!) If you are a candidate in EC-GEN, MC-GEN, EC-Literacy, or MC-Literacy I highly recommend you check out The Power of Accomplished Teaching website. When I worked on my boards I was the ONLY person in my state that year to do so. I had ZERO local support and had NO idea where to even begin. A little bit of research landed me on The Power of Accomplished Teaching website and I'm so glad that it did. Without the support of this site and the NBCTs behind it there is no way I would have certified in just one year. There is a small annual fee to join, but the resources you gain there will be invaluable … [Read more...]

December Currently! {2014}

LISTENING: I'm listening to Sarah's favorite TV show... Sid the Science Kid! LOVING: I love watching Sarah learn and grow each day. She will be 18 months old this Wednesday! This past month she has learned lots of new words, knows how to throw trash away in the kitchen, invented a few more dance moves, gives kisses, and has become obsessed with stickers! THINKING: I cannot stop thinking about how excited I am about the Polka Dot Parlor new site launch! I began working with Staci from Quirky-Bird about a year ago on updating my website. Meet Me! {teacher blogger linky}

Hi everyone! My name is Bethany McClure and I'd like to welcome you to my blog, Learning is a Journey! I started my blog a few years ago as a way for my students and parents to stay up-to-date on classroom happenings. Since then, I've expanded my blog to not only include topics pertaining to teaching and learning, but also topics that are important in other areas of my life such as my family, running, music, and Auburn to name a few! I would love for you to take a look around and follow my blog via one of the options listed on the sidebar! Here is a little bit about my sweet family... I have been married to Scott for 4 years! We met at Auburn University. War Eagle! Scott was getting ready to graduate with his engineering degree and I was finishing up my 2nd year of teaching 1st grade at … [Read more...]

August Currently! {2014}

I'm so excited about my new blog design! I've been working on it all week. I've decided that I just can't manage two blogs anymore so I'm combining my teaching and personal blog into one. I hope this will bring a bit more variety to my blog as I include posts related to teaching, as well as my family and personal interests. Watching the War Eagle/Roll Tide special on ESPN2 this morning really made me excited for football season. I can't wait to see Sarah in her new cheerleader uniform! Only 3 more weeks... WAR EAGLE! I've just finished reading Chris Powell's Choose More, Lose More for Life. He and his wife Heidi Powell are so inspiring to me and I'm hoping that by following their Carb Cycling plan I can lose my last 15 lbs (or more!) to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. It has … [Read more...]

Classroom Awards & Google Reader

It's the end of the year and time for Classroom Awards! How do you recognize your students at the end of the year? Last year, I wanted to recognize my students for their individual efforts and unique personalities. I created my Classroom Awards & Certificates for Primary Students and they are available in Chevron, Stripes, and Polka Dots! I love having the families join us as I give out these awards. I always describe the award and tell why I have chosen the particular student who is receiving it. The students LOVE trying to guess who is going to receive each award! This year after our awards ceremony, I had the sweetest grandfather thank me for doing individualized awards. He said he knew it meant so much for his grandson to be recognized as the "Marvelous Mathematician" and he could … [Read more...]

Summer Bucket List!

I am so excited that Summer is almost here! I'm joining in with the Summer Bucket List linky party hosted by A Cupcake for the Teacher, Miss Kindergarten, and A Modern Teacher. The most important item on my Summer Bucket List is to spend time getting to know our little girl. I am almost 9 months pregnant and have a c-section scheduled for June 3rd! We are so excited about welcoming our baby girl into our family... most of my time this summer will be spent navigating the waters of new motherhood! My husband and I have a lot to learn, and thankfully we have all summer to figure it out! As soon as I can, I want to begin running again. I continued running up until week 26 of my pregnancy and then my feet began to swell. For the past 3 months I've only been able to fit into one pair of … [Read more...]
